Four Oldhammers have received an honors from His Majesty, King Charles III.

Oldham Council Leader, Councillor Arooj Shah has commended all four Oldham recipients of his majesty, King Charles's official birthday honors list, saying:

"I'm so proud of these four Oldhamers and glad they've got the recognition they deserve. Time and again, Oldhamers across our borough demonstrate their compassion, care, and community-mindedness."

Idris Ali, a provision contracts manager for the Department for Work and Pensions, has been honored with the prestigious British Empire Medal (BEM). Expressing his immense pride, Ali said:

"When I received the letter, I was in shock! Is it really for me, I said to myself? Honestly speaking, I could not be more proud and happier, especially because of the barriers I've had to overcome."

He acknowledged the support of his family, friends, and the people he has helped through his voluntary work, stating: "It's for my family and friends that supported me and believed in me; it's for all the people that I have helped me through my voluntary work."

Ali hopes this recognition will inspire others, particularly the younger generation, to make a difference in their communities.

Also receiving well-deserved honors are three other outstanding individuals from Oldham.

• Mercy Lusungu Shibemba will be awarded an MBE for her services to people with HIV.

• Oyovwe Sagbodje Kigho will receive a BEM for her dedication to bereaved individuals in Manchester.

• Graham Quinn will be honored with an OBE for his services to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
