The Council is developing a solar farm at Wrigley Head in Failsworth, on the site of a former industrial landfill alongside the Metrolink tram line.
The solar farm will generate up to 1MW (MegaWatt) of renewable electricity, which will either be supplied to the Council itself via the local grid, or will be used to supply local businesses and help them to cut their energy costs.
It will also save an average of around 50 tonnes of CO2 annually over the lifetime of the facility.
