Oldham Council Music Awards
There are two awards for students to develop their musical skills, either within the borough of Oldham or at full time Music Conservatories or other full time higher education establishments.
These awards are made to assist with the costs associated with students intending on pursuing a career in music.
Please be aware that you can only apply for either:
- The Tuition and Instrument Award
- The Higher Education Award
Tuition and Instrument Award
To assist with the cost of musical instruments and/or tuition required for further or specialist study. The amount of the award can vary each year, depending on number of applications received and the overall amount agreed by the Committee at the start. Last year the average award received was £425 per application.
Criteria
- Aged of 11 to 21 years
- Living within Oldham borough
- Showing exceptional ability in music e.g. outstanding exam success, acceptance by a national youth music group
Higher Education Award
A monetary prize for students taking up places to study music at conservatoires, universities or other institutes of full-time higher education. The amount of the award can vary each year, depending on number of applications received and the overall amount agreed by the Committee at the start. Last year the average award received was £480 per application.
Criteria
- Living within Oldham borough
Either
- Acceptance by or full-time attendance at a recognised music department of a university for a specialised course of study
- Acceptance by or full-time attendance at a Music Conservatoire
- Acceptance by or full-time attendance at any other institute of further education

Please note that in the event of requests for support exceeding available funds, priority will be given to first time applicants.
Complete the application, stating which award you would like to be considered for, and return the form to the Music Centre or email your signed application to musicservice@oldham.gov.uk.

Future Talent
Future Talent nurtures musically talented young people.
Future Talent can help with placing specialists in schools, and providing individual sponsorship.
Oldham Music Centre students should submit their applications via the Music Centre.
Gerald Pritchett Memorial Prize
Presented to Music Centre students who have shown loyalty to the Music Centre over a number of years and contributed to its musical life.
This prize is donated by Mrs Joan Pritchett in memory of her husband who was Director of Education for Oldham from 1967-77. It is presented each year at the Music Centre Summer.
Lyceum Award
For students achieving the highest marks in the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
This award is presented annually by the Trustees of the Lyceum School of Music.
