How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

By Observing children daily and leasing with outside agency and parents to plan support strategies then monitor progress. If children are still not making progress as expected Special Education Needs and/or Disability may then be identified.

How do you involve parents/carers?

We carry our regular meetings with parents and any outside agencies involved with the family.

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

We will offer support meeting, daily chats at the start end of your child’s sessions. We also offer parent open days to come into the setting and join in activities where we can demonstrate how we use play to support your child’s learning.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

We will coordinate an individual plan for your child. This will come from meetings that we carry out with all parents and any outside agencies involved. You will have the opportunity to input to the plan and we follow this each day when your child is in our care, It also has timelines each term when a review should be carries out to monitor the effectiveness of the plan and change if needed.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

On your child individual plan it will clearly show the outcomes that we are working towards, each time we review the plan we will note down your child’s responses to our activities/support provided and this will show where and when they are achieving the agreed outcomes.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

We have a range or resources and strategies that we have used over the years to enable us to adapt all activities and resources so that every child can access them. We will also invite you into the setting when we plan any new activities or resources that may need adaptions so that you can also have you input into what may be beneficial to your child.

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

We have a wonderful accessible area both indoors and outdoors that children can access easily, we only have a few very small steps and we are always available to give support to children when using them if needed. Children have a large outdoor garden to explore and the whole area is viewable at once for the adults. Children are supervised at all time while also having the independence to explore the environment independently.

How do you involve children in outings and trips?

We will carry out a risk assessment prior to any outdoor trips/activities, part of this risk assessment will be to ensure each child will have the correct level of support for the outing. A full copy of the risk assessment will be available for all parents to view. Parents’ consent will be required prior to the event taking place.

How do you work with other organisations?

We attend regular meetings with outside agency to keep up to date with any changes and also keep up to date with who we would ned to contact for any support needed. We constantly work with a range of external agencies and ensure that our polices and procedures are followed at all times. To support children with SEND we carry out person centred meetings each term with all adults supporting the child.

How do you support children when they start and leave?

We offer visits and settling in sessions free of charge prior to starting at the setting, we give parents photos of staff so that children can become more familiar with us before they start and we gain lots of information from parents at the settling in sessions, so that we can support each child individually to the best of our ability. When children leave we contact the new setting to support the transition and if possible the new staff visit our setting to meet the child before they leave us, we send transition documents and support parents with anything they need during this time too.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

Myself the childminder has previous 8 year’s experience as a SENDco of an early years setting and also attends regular SEND meetings with the local authority. Assistants attend online training and are updated with any changes by the childminder to ensure everyone is current and following the same support plan.

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

If you have a compliment, concern or complaint we would also ask if you feel comfortable to speak to us and we would be happy to support, help or take any action needed, you can also speak to the local authority at any time or OFSTED the contact details are available on display in the setting or online.
