How do you involve parents/carers?

Observation and assessment, Identification and communication with parents and other individuals in the child''s network. Getting to know the child and applying my ongoing send training. Using my skills, knowledge and experience to implement a care plan to give the child the best care.

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

Communication, getting to know the parents and family unit, networking with local family service networks with permission and reporting regularly to the parents and the child's professional network. Liasing with other professionals as requested.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

All children in my care are offered an equal chance of success in their learning and development regardless of need or background. Care and education delivered in my setting is based around the EYFS, Development matters and birth to five and monessori. These are used interchangeably to provide an individual care plan.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

Through observation, monitoring, trailing and reporting in a way that is not intrusive to the child and/or in a way that the voice of the child is considered (depending on the age and ability of the child). Children's input is encouraged as part of my planning.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

I implement observation and trailing to ensure my activities and planning meet the interest, needs and positive developmental progress of the child. These are used in line with the EYFS, Birth to five, development matters and montessori. Parent's will receive a daily diary, regular communication, prompt responses to any concerns and end of turn trailing report.

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

Activities and resources are already adapted for children of different age groups. If extra help is needed, i can either purchase or hire extra equipment. I have made a list in advance of local organisations which offer toys, equipment and resources for hire.

How do you involve children in outings and trips?

As part of my risk assessment for outdoor activities, locations will be viewed / inspected prior to the trip, the site risk assessment will be printed off included with contact forms if needed. Every care will be taken to ensure children's safety. I will take steps to ensure the trip is a positive experience.

How do you work with other organisations?

I have started contacting local and national networks for the latest information and resources that they offer to assist with my planning. I have also started a contact/signpost list of services connected with SEND e.g. speech and language.

How do you support children when they start and leave?

Children starting will be offered free settling in sessions, with family members at first and then on their own when they are ready. While in my care, the children have a 'learning binder' which is for recording likes/dislikes, activities, trips, photos etc. This leaves with the children when my care for them comes to an end.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

I regularly attend SEND training from both local and national sources. I am currently undertaking an 'ADHD, Aspergers and Autism course' which is due for competition in November 2024.

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

I have a complaint policy in place. My policy asks that all complaints initially come to me to resolve on a personal level to eradicate any misunderstandings that can be resolved quickly. I am also monitored by 'at home childcare (hcc) who are authorised by ofsted to act on complaints and concerns and then inspect my setting. Myself or the agency can also be contacted for compliments and feedback (whether negative or positive) these are always welcome.
