How do you involve parents/carers?

Discussions with parents/carer’s on a regular basis.• Involve parents/carer’s in any action we are going to take e.g. speaking with health visitors, Speech and language etc.• Stay and play sessions are offered, where parents/carer’s can come and join in with their child’s play gaining an insight into their learning and development.• Quarterly Parents Forum Evenings where we aim to share information and ideas that could help with a variety of issues you may encounter at home.• We involve parents/ carer’s in Personal centered reviews, targets being set etc.

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

There is a named SENCO within the setting.• Regular discussions and updates will take place with SENCO, key worker and other members of staff• Person centered review meetings which will involve parents/ carer’s and all practitioner’s working with your family• Liaise with professionals on your behalf and organize visits within nursery if needed.• Provide information for support groups e.g. Speech and language drop in sessions, SEN Policy and other agencies.• Provision mapping is used to plan for each child around their needs.• Parents can access their child’s online learning journal for regular information, observations and development reports regarding your child’s learning.

How do you work with other organisations?

How do you support children when they start and leave?

• Three one hour visits are arranged when a child starts at our nursery giving them chance to explore with a secure base ( Pro-long visit if needed) Parents to stay initially to complete admission forms and baseline assessment on first visit.• Each child is appointed their own key worker who will work alongside the child throughout their time at our setting.• Children have their own online Tapestry journal which the key worker will access regularly to add information, observations and development reports regarding your child’s learning.• Personal, Social, Emotional activities are planned to help build relationships with staff and children.• Outside agencies can come into nursery to ensure a smooth transition and provide advice if needed.• When a child leaves our setting we provide a transition document to the new setting detailing the child’s development• Transition meeting with new setting giving opportunities for practitioner’s to come and observe children in nursery before leaving.• Provide new setting with reports, Personal centered planning etc.• Pass on the child’s background information sheet.• Act out different situations to support transitions using the role play corner.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

• The SEN Policy is read and reviewed regularly at staff meetings.• Regular courses around SEND e.g. SEND reforms, Role of SENCO, little talkers etc are offered to our Special educational needs coordinator and other staff in nursery.• SENCO ensures a good level of knowledge across all staff via staff meetings and training days. • We have a specific ELKLAN leader in our setting.• “Communication Champion”

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

There is a Complaints procedure in place within our setting – copies to complete can be found in the office. • Parents/ carers questionnaires are available near our information board that can be filled in anonymously. They are also given out at parents evening/ stay and play sessions so we can continue to improve. • There is also a comments box in the hallway available for parents/ carers to use.
