How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

We do a baseline assessment when a child starts with us within the first few weeks, we monitor progress over the next few weeks through observation and assessment. If a child is not progressing and following the norms of childhood development then we would put strategies into place to help and refer to the relevant professionals if needed

How do you involve parents/carers?

Ask parents / carers what concerns they have if any. What help they would like and have meetings every 6 weeks so that we can all work together and from the same sheet that suit the individual needs of the child

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

We will help by including you in your child's support what we are giving them and sharing strategies with you.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

We will support and get other professionals on board for your child, that they may need. We want what is best for your child and we will offer this to the best that we can.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

We will have meetings where strategies will be put in place for your child to achieve the agreed outcomes, these meetings will all be documented and a copy of these documents will be for the parents

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

By supporting the child with a 1:1 ratio, helping them to achieve the required task and celebrating their achievements

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

The setting is all on 1 level and can accommodate a wheelchair or walking frame. We don't have an outdoor area at the moment but are trying to get funding so that we can.

How do you involve children in outings and trips?

On trips the child would be on a 1:1 ratio, and the child would be included in all activities and would have been risk assessed before hand, to make sure all children's abilities would be suited

How do you work with other organisations?

We will work through referral process, then have meetings with professionals and parents to get the best support that we can

How do you support children when they start and leave?

We support the family and the child by being friendly and homely, including them into our setting, we have a key person in place that supports them. We talk about starting at the setting and the other children help new children with their anxieties. We talk about moving to nursery or big school, reading stories etc.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

The local authority runs courses throughout the year for new SENCO's and updates for existing ones. The staff are experienced with working with a variety of SEND children throughout the years

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

All of the above can be dealt with by the SENCO of the setting. If a parent feels that this is not being dealt with properly then the owner/manager of the group is the person to go to. You're concern would be dealt with in confidence and professionally and hopefully sorted out for the interest of the child and family
