On discussion with ParentsProvides for different cultural needs
YesHow do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?
We do this when parents have their first look around the nursery by talking to them about there child or if the child has been refed to us from outside agencies We look at base line and two year checks and do an ASQ on the child to see any gaps in development. We also do what is called Wellcom this is a communication tool kit. We then start what is called the graduated approach with parents and contact the health visitor keeping parents informed during all the prosses of this And referring parent to necessary agencies or me doing the referral processHow do you involve parents/carers?
Parents fill in all about me and we discuss the base line with them adding any information they want to put on to the base line We talk to them about what they can do at home and how other agencies can help and give targets to help the child progress. Meeting will be held every half term so we can keep up to date with your child’s learning and vice versaHow do you support a child’s learning and development?
We do individual support plans for the child/children That are reachable targets for them and use the developmental journal if targets deed to be defined even more we use Wellcom activities to support communication and language and parents can also do this at home. We can also do a SEN support plan this help and more targets get put on to this with all parents information and concerns as well as aspirations for your child short and long term We work closely with other professional following there advice on what we can do nextHow do you meet a child’s educational needs?
Treating every child as on individual We adapt to each and every child listening to the parent and there needs as they know the child best And we then grow together to best support the child overall including all the other people involved in your child’s life to ensure a rich fun learning is there for themHow do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?
We do this with individual plans and SEN support plans by having meeting showing what has worked well and now and have we are going to achieve what is not met in a different way and asking for professional advice on what else we can do or who we can refer to.How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?
All activities are met for children that can sit stand or need to be laced to the floor So the child can feel a sense of individuality and an I can attitude as well as self-belief.How accessible is your service, outside and inside?
We would struggle with wheel chairs due to doors Being narrow and us having a step and any children not walking at moment as we do cross a road to our play area this is a learning development though for all children we are just update our outdoor space at this moment in time but it is still available for children to use We have a locked gate when children are in the areaHow do you involve children in outings and trips?
We will ask parent to bring in a parm for walks if child struggles with walking We have high viz jackets and water proof all in ones for children to access wet messy play We ask parents to provide wellies ensuring all medication is taken with forms and parents contacts as well all risk assessments are done before we goHow do you work with other organisations?
We contact them by phone h/v will contact us with any information as we both do the ASQ to see if they both match up we may then ask for a referral for an AEN worker to support the child but we will start the graduated approach with h/v working alongside we can also get advice from an AEN to see how we can do things better until your child has been given there own AEN this is all done with consent off parent on first meeting we have which is the 4+1 then as we go forward we communicate with more professionals as often is needed building all information up to get to a possible EHCP for the childHow do you support children when they start and leave?
When children start with us parent fill all forms in and do an all about me for the child starting helping us to settle the child better and understand them. We do what is called a settling session this can be different for each child and my take longer for them to settle we also listen to the parent on what they want but the child emotional wellbeing comes first to us and we will build up the hours for the child. On leaving we do reports to all schools and lease with them about your child and also do meeting with the parents teacher and key worker so that they have the best understanding on how your child will learn with them and is a great opportunity for you to also ask any questions you may have. How are you/staff trained in extra needs?
My staff attend the LA training on send and we attend the send net work meeting We also are trained paediatric first aiders We have our own training platform which also includes autism awareness behaviour Auto injections allergies And a lot more We also do in house training this involves bringing outside agencies in to teach us new ways of teaching and learning. What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?
