The service is free to parents/carers of children and young people with additional needs and/or disabilities.Description
The Forum is for parents and carers of children and young people with additional needs and disabilities. Our driving mission is to ensure that parents and carers have access to meaningful information, advice, and peer support, whilst enabling their voices to be heard to drive change and shape better services. Information, advice, peer support and consultation to help parents and carers of children and young people with additional needs and disabilities.
Our main aim is to ensure the needs of our children and young people with SEND are met and we bring together parent carers from across Oldham to provide mutual support, exchange information, and influence policy and practice:
- Create a culture of participation and co-production across education, health, social care and the voluntary sectors. This means that we can become involved in all aspects of designing, commissioning, delivering and reviewing services as an equal partner
- Empower our members to ensure that their voices are heard at a local, regional and national level
- Inspire our partners by sharing good practice and knowledge.
We are a member of the National Network of Parent Carer Forums.
Who can join the Parent Carer Forum?
Parents or carers of a child or young person (Aged 0-25) with any type of additional need or disability who live in Oldham are welcome to join. Joining the Forum does not mean you have to commit lots of time. You can join the Forum and receive information, and then decide if you want to get more involved at your own pace.
The Forum represents the views of parents in the local area but does not advocate for individual families. Please note that Oldham Parent Carer Forum is a voluntary led Forum and we spend large amounts of time at meetings and events. It may not be possible to respond immediately to any contacts but we thank you in advance for your patience and will return your call as soon as possible.
The Forum hosts and supports many events across Oldham aimed at bringing together a range of organisations and services who support children and young people (Aged 0-25 years) who all support SEND families through information about activities, education and care/support of the carer and their families. Come down to our monthly Tea & Toast drop-ins and chat with other parent/carers.
