8 War Memorial

Oldham War Memorial was unveiled in 1923 to commemorate Oldhamers who were killed in the First World War. The sculpture is by Albert Toft and shows five soldiers going ‘over the top’ from a trench. In the plinth of the war memorial there is a Roll of Honour recording the names of local men who died in the Second World War.

Go over to the Flanders Field poem on the building opposite and read it aloud to the rest of your group.
