5. Bandstand
The children’s playground was once the site of a large bandstand. Between 1887 and 1942 this was the place to come and listen to music played by brass bands and other musical groups. It is captured on the postcard of Oldham, in the top lefthand corner. The current shelter is a smaller copy of the original.
