Alexandra Park Trail

2. John Platt Statue

This bronze statue of John Platt MP was originally situated near Oldham Town Hall. It was moved to Alexandra Park in 1924. John Platt was the owner of Platt Brothers, the largest textile engineering company in the world. He was also responsible for building the School of Science and Art on Union Street next to the Lyceum. His figure is supported by four female figures representing Science, Art, Engineering and Manufacturing.

If somebody made a statue of you, how would you pose? What would you choose to represent you?
