Social housing is provided by housing associations or Oldham Council.
It exists to help people who can’t afford to rent or buy a home privately. These homes are let to households who are most in need.
How to apply
To apply for social housing, you need to join the housing register by complete our Housing Options Registration Form.
You need to provide documents to prove your identity and eligibility.
It can take up to 12 weeks for us to process your application.

How are properties allocated?
We look at a number of different things in order to prioritise those most in need including:
- Health issues
- Medical needs
- Severe overcrowding
- Safety concerns
- Unsuitability of current housing
The full details of eligibility and how priority is decided are included in the Oldham Council Allocations Scheme:

New log-in process
We are introducing a change to the way you log in to see and bid on properties. From 21 August 2024, to log in, you will need three things:
- Your username / email address
- Your password
- A unique PIN sent to your email address
After you enter your username or email address and password, you will be asked to enter a PIN that will be sent to your email address. Without this, you will not be able to log in to the website and bid or change any of your details. If this PIN is not in your inbox, check your junk/spam folder.
This is a security feature to keep your details safe and prevent unauthorised access to your account. This is sometimes called "Two Factor Authentication."
Once you have been added to the housing register you will be able to bid on available properties:
