Infrastructure planning is an essential part of the Local Plan process.
Planning policy recognises that in order to create sustainable communities it is not sufficient to provide housing and employment opportunities alone; we also need to ensure that development is supported by the necessary physical, social and green infrastructure.
The Infrastructure Study
The Infrastructure Study supports the production of the Local Plan and identifies the potential future infrastructure needs for the borough.
The study helps the Council and other service providers to identify and prioritise infrastructure provision as part of an integrated approach to planning and infrastructure delivery.
The Infrastructure Study aims to identify:
- Physical, social and green infrastructure in we already have in the borough
- The infrastructure we might need to support population change, housing and employment growth
- Future infrastructure programmes and improvements that will take place in the borough to support growth and provide an infrastructure delivery plan detailing of the costs, means of funding and timetables of infrastructure programmes.
